St. Francis’ Damn Yankees came out swinging this weekend

St. Francis High School’s (located at 4129 Lake Shore Road in Athol Springs) production of Damn Yankees (based on Douglass Wallop’s The Year the Yankees Lost the Pennant) hit all the right notes with audiences.

Under Mark David Skura’s direction the boys, especially Kerrick Woyshner as Mr. Applegate delighted with his mischievous antics and Ryan Fishback as the misguided youth seeking Joe Boyd to deliver a winning game. While the girls, handpicked from the area’s local high schools such as Elisabeth Engle (Lola) and Emily Tharnish (Meg) were the show’s designated hitters belting out ballads like ‘Whatever Lola Wants’ which lucky audience members were glad to get.

Players were swing hitting with Jason Torres’ choreographed tap-dancing and bat tricks that caused ticket holders to gasp and clap at the home run performances. The cast received a standing ovation and the high school’s production of Damn Yankees will play throughout the weekend.
