What could be more fun for young and old alike than the 3rd Annual St. Augustine Pirate Gathering. Running from Friday, November 12th thru Sunday, November 14th, historians, re-enactors and “casual” pirates will be celebrating the Golden Age of Piracy at St. Frances Field and the Historical Quarter in downtown St. Augustine.
Visitors are encouraged to dress as pirates and join the Black Heart and Ancient City Privateers in weapons demonstrations, sailor’s encampment and a pirate mutiny. The fun also includes: Thieves Market, stories of the high seas and a Matey’s play area for the little ones.
To add to the excitement, the American Privateer Lynx, a 122-foot ship will be making it’s grand arrival in St. Augustine on November 11th at 3 p.m. The Lynx is a representation of privateer or naval schooner from the War of 1812 in which interactive programs teach the history of America’s struggle and the discipline of sail training. The ship, sponsored by Ancient City Privateers and St. Augustine Yacht Club, will be docked at the City marina until February and will be offering public tours and sailing adventures.
