Throughout the year, the Palm Beach Film Society hosts industry workshops, screenings and networking events to foster the collaboration and creativity of the artistic community. As a part of the Palm Beach International Film Festival each spring, The “Voices of Film” screenings will occur during the Palm Beach International Film Festival on April 6 at 7 p.m. at the Cobb Theatre, Downtown at the Gardens in Palm Beach Gardens.
The signature event, “Voices of Film”, will showcase independent films by local filmmakers as well as the winning films from the Student Showcase of Films which were awarded on March 14. Joining of the two showcase screenings provide the student filmmakers a chance to meet and discuss film with local filmmakers in the industry.
SSOF is the largest statewide film competition for students enrolled in high school and college film and television programs. Young Florida filmmakers were recently awarded with more than $10,000 in cash and scholarships. The placements of the winners for the Feature/Short category as well as the winners of the Burt Reynolds scholarship, Sara Fuller Scholarship and Audience Award, were revealed at the 19th annual awards ceremony held on March 14. An audience award winner was selected as the result of 2,055 online votes, received $500. The winner was Daniela Arguello of Cypress Bay High School for "Reverie." Arguello also won 1st place for her film "Disconnected" in the Commercial/PSA category.
Florida encourages its student and future filmmakers in all fruitful endeavors.
