SS Lazio from Italy defeated German team VfB Stuttgart 2-0 in the first leg of the UEFA Europa League round of 16 on Thursday morning. The German team hosted the game and could not find a goal even though the match was fairly even.
ESPN Deportes reported that Lazio scored a goal in each half. The first goal was scored by Brazilian midfielder Honorato Campos Ederson at the 26th minute. The second was made by Nigerian midfielder Ogenyi Onazi in the 56th minute.
Stuttgart and Lazio were almost split down the center as far as having control of the game. They both shot nine times at each other. On the other hand, the Italian club team controlled the ball 55 percent of the game.
Lazio should be very comfortable with this two-goal victory as the visitor goal rule is applied in the UEFA Europa League tournament. So, Stuttgart has to score at least two goals in Italy to stay alive, or win by two goals if Lazio makes any at home.
Their next game will be one week from today on March 14.
