At the PlayStation 2013 event on Feb. 20, Japanese video game developer and publisher Square-Enix took to the stage in what was ultimately one of the more disappointing presentations of the entire night, even if it ended on a somewhat promising note for fans of the company. Not only did the developer behind such greats as the Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, and Dragon Quest series fail to show anything upcoming for the newly announced PlayStation 4 console, they basically told fans to wait until E3 to see what they have up their sleeve.
The presentation began with chief technology officer Yoshihisa Hashimoto introducing the “state of the art” Luminous engine that Square-Enix will be using for future games, along with a short clip of real-time rendering tech demo for the Luminous engine, "Agni’s Philosophy -- FINAL FANTASY" that was seen at E3 2012.
"Please be excited for E3 this year."
Brand director Shinji Hashimoto concluded Square-Enix's presentation with an announcement that will keep Final Fantasy fans wanting for months to come: a new Final Fantasy title is in development for the PS4, and will likely be unveiled at this year’s E3.
There's still no word on the status of Final Fantasy Versus XIII, which is a title that fans have been dying to get their hands on for years now (pretty much since it was unveiled in May of 2006!) What do you think Square-Enix will have in store for us at E3? Is it Versus XIII? Is a Final Fantasy XV announcement on the horizon, or something else entirely?
