Philadelphia, PA– Square 1682, a Kimpton Restaurant adjacent to Hotel Palomar, recently launched an ambitious renovation project that will maximize space, increase the level of service, add to street visibility, and allow for Chef Guillermo Tellez and Chef de Cuisine Caitlin Mateo to more readily interact with guests with a new open kitchen design.
Dramatic changes include removing the large staircase near Square 1682’s corner revolving door to add room for seating, and further maximizing space by moving the large centrally situated bar against the restaurant’s interior wall. The main dining room and the lounge will be located together on the first floor. Square 1682’s second floor will continue to feature its inviting and visually stunning private dining room, in addition to the Pei Boardroom, along with added meeting space and room for private functions.
Other new interior design elements and infrastructure changes will be reflected through every element of the restaurant, including furniture, flat wear, window treatments, signage, staff uniforms, and the design of both the food and beverage menus, with all new menu items to come for the launch in Mid-March.
“We’re very excited for Square 1682’s main dining room to be a part of the open kitchen experience at Square 1682,” says Chef de Cuisine Caitlin Mateo. “Interacting with our guests and being able to show them what we do is part of creating a great dining experience, and now it’s all on one floor.”
A new tag line will accompany the refresh and re-launch: Square 1682— American Kitchen & Cocktails. The tag line underscores Chef de Cuisine Caitlin Mateo’s focus on regional American cooking. It also gives nod to Square 1682’s stepped up cocktail program led by Chauncey Scates [formerly of Stateside, Franklin Mortgage & Investment Co.].
During the reconstruction period on the first floor, Scates and her mixology team will wield their spirits and show their skills from a temporary satellite bar on the second floor overlooking bustling 17th Street. Scates will roll out her new cocktail menu by featuring several new cocktails each week leading up to the reopening of the first floor restaurant, bar and lounge. The satellite bar is open to the public and offers a unique and intimate experience.
Look for more information during the weeks ahead leading up to a full launch of a new Square 1682 slated for the middle of March. The restaurant will remain open with service taking place on Square 1682’s second floor while the first floor is under renovation.
