Had a nice note from Richard TRUESDELL from automotivetraveler.com about his Death Valley spy shots. I capitalize Richard’s name because I called him Truesdale, an error since corrected. Anyway, it turns out his spy shots may be of a Hyundai competitor to the Mazda5.

At least that’s the speculation from a discussion thread at Hyundaiforum.com. NovaResource, who is a super moderator for the site, pointed out Richard’s pictures could not be of the new Accent/Verna because it has five-lug wheels and the new Accent has four-lug wheels. I really have to start looking more closely at wheels!
NovaResource then added this tidbit, “What you saw was a totally new, 6-passenger mini-minivan like the Mazda5. The Hyundai HED-5 I-Mode Crossover.” [That concept was introduced at the 2008 Geneva Auto Show.]

That’s interesting conjecture. I own a Mazda5 and nobody makes anything like it. Mazda is coming out with a new model later this year. Truthfully, if Hyundai makes something similar, it would be a must-have on my shopping list.
