Celebrate National Piano Month by treating yourself to one of the fine piano concerts scheduled for this month. You couldn’t do better than to catch the Lang Lang concert at Weill Hall at the Green Music Center on the Sonoma State University campus in Rohnert Park tomorrow, Tuesday, September 17th. It was almost a year ago, Saturday evening, September 29th 2012 that Lang Lang opened this superb music venue at it’s inaugural concert, followed by a spectacular fireworks display. Tomorrow evening Lang Lang will be performing an all Chopin concert
On Saturday, the 21st, jazz and Rhythm and Blues fans have the opportunity to see and hear Allen Toussaint at the San Francisco Jazz Center. Performer, songwriter, arranger and producer, Toussaint is a must see for any true jazz and R&B fan.
Fans of the piano will also want to take in the solo performance of George Winston at the Freight and Salvage in Berkeley on Sunday, September 22. Pianist and composer Winston’s shows feature a wide variety of styles including folk piano, tride piano, Ne Orleans R & B and don’t forget the tribute to Peanuts with pieces by Vince Guaraldi. Greatly influenced by the seasons, this show will feature works collected to celebrate Summer.
And, on the 26th, 27th and 28th you have the opportunity to see Emanuel Ax performing with the San Francisco Symphony under the direction of Michael Tilson Thomas. The concert will include work by Mahler, Beethoven, Copland, Debussy, Grieg and more.
Now all this ought to be enough to satisfy the most ardent of piano fans.
