Sprite for hangovers is the latest remedy for heavy drinking, according to a new research study in China. UPI reports Oct. 8 that researchers discovered Sprite for hangovers actually sped up recovery time. This beverage performed the best out of 57 drinks that were studied, including Huo ma ren (a hemp-seed based beverage), different teas, and carbonated drinks.
Sprite and soda water managed to speed up the ALDH activity, which would potentially lessen the hangover.
CBS News reports that Edzard Ernst, a medical expert at the University of Exeter in the U.K., that although the research was intriguing, people shouldn't go crazy and stock up on Sprite for hangovers.
"These results are a reminder that herbal and other supplements can have pharmacological activities that can both harm and benefit our health," Ernst said.
