ALBANY, NY -- Carmine Sprio, at one time arguably the Capital Region's top celebrity chef, is about to reemerge on the local dining scene.
Sprio plans to open Carmine’s Brazilian Grill in downtown Albany, according to a report in the Business Journal today. The 90-seat restaurant will be on the first floor of 4-6 Sheridan Avenue, former site of the Big House Brewing Company,
It will be a fixed-price, all-you-care-to-eat restaurant open for lunch and dinner. The opening day target is February 1.
True to its name the restaurant will feature churrasco cooking: a popular Brazilian style of grilling meats on perpendicular skewers that then are brought tableside to be carved and served.Patrons will be offered a 30-item "starter bar" that will include appetizers and salads.
Sprio, 48, who at one time operated several dining spots and hosted his own TV cooking show, told the Journal he has spent the past two years focusing on his family. His wife was ill, but is doing better.
He and partners Clemente Parente and Dan Sanders purchased the Sheridan Avenue building last year.
