My opinion of this phone has changed after my initial review. Please check out the follow-up review here.
Examiner Rating: D
Once again, my final review of a phone is much different than my initial impressions. I didn't initially like the Blackberry Storm2 on Verizon, but also didn't realize I was playing with a defective unit until I did a full review. I initially liked the Samsung Moment on Sprint, but after playing around with it for a day, it became apparent that the phone is pretty useless due to the virtually nonexistent battery life.

Build and Design
The Samsung Moment feels like your typical brick. This thing is huge! It does feel decent in your hand though and the rubbery keyboard is very high quality. For those who really need a keyboard, the weight shouldn't matter. The one thing I absolutely detest is having to remove the battery every time I want to swap out microSD cards.
Screen
At first glance, the AMOLED screen looks colorful and beautiful. But like othe AMOLED screens, the brightness levels fall short. The screen on the Samsung Moment has an annoying bluish tint that is especially noticeable when comparing it to other phones. Even though the HTC Hero has an LED screen, it is still much better than that of the Samsung Moment.

I love all your reviews, Daryl. You seem to be passionate. I did hear that the battery life on this phone was pretty bad.
This phone is vile. It didn't even last two hours on a battery charge.
I have had the phone for a couple days and the battery has been great. I returned my HTC Hero because I kept getting dust under my screen. This happened on two seperate units and HTC admitted it was a problem. The Samsung does have a problem with showing the correct battery charge, but it has lasted all day from 6am to 8pm without an additional charge. I talk 2700 minutes a month and use the phone to run my mobile office. I have been very happy with it.
How are you using it? I had like 5 phone calls for a total of 3 hours and still had half the battery life. Was using a bluetooth headset also... ????????
Are you kidding me dude! What phone are you reviewing! I bought this phone first thing Monday morning. Charged the battery fully. An have not had a problem at all with the battery life. A full day of usage. An as for the brightness of the screen goes, the HTC hero don't even come close. What bluish tint are you referring to? That with in itself should have told you, that you had a bad unit.I would be happy to let you test mine. So It wouldn't be fair for you to say this phone is that bad. I really have to believe it's the reviewer himself. My unit here is darn near perfect.
bad review..
I need to know.
1. Call quality/speaker quality
2. Multi-tasking
3. Lag issues
4. multimedia support..
fail..
iphone brainwashed tard you are.
Terrible review.
LOL. Maybe you got a bad phone reviewer but I use the phone constantly, all day, and not once have I run out of battery. Like most smart phones, you need to toggle some options that will extend your battery life (switch off Wifi when not in use, there an easy widget for this, auto screen brightness, screen timeout to lowest setting, etc). It's either you got a defective phone or you are an HTC fanboy, and it that case HTC has had a problem with battery-draining flaw since the beginning.
There have been many people with the same problems. Perhaps there was one bad shipment that missed quality control.
Terrible review.... There is a problem with the battery gauge. For so odd resaon it flies down to 15% but will stay there for 7 hours of hard(and i mean intense by having everything possible on) usage. Im an owner of a Moment and i would expect for a "professional" to think or research before he speaks.
The battery last longer then the Palm Pre(which battery blows) and the first 1st Gen iphone...
I just got one and in my experience it lasted all day long with heavy use, I love it. The UI isn't as flashy the Hero's but this phone is superior to the Hero in many ways. The qwerty keyboard is excellent regardless of what some reviewers have said. The plane jane UI is a customizer's dream. If you use open home and an HTC hero Skin you can use up to 7 screens just like the Hero.
I just got the phone 2 days ago and am having tons of issues sending text messages. When I manually imput the 10 digit number in to do a text, it works fine. When I select a contact from my phone book and I send the message, shortly thereafter I get an error message; "9230 Message sent using invalid number of digits. Please resend using 10 digit number or valid short code. Msg 2114". Took it to Sprint yesterday and they played around with it and said that I needed to delete and re-enter my contact that I am having the issue with. Well it works fine for around two messages sent, and then the error starts again. Before deleting the contacts we attempted to download updates with no avail. Anyone have suggestions or similar issues?
I got mine the 1st day. Sprint had an issue with the service but, a hard reset fixed it. The phone saved and always went back to the error issue. I love this phone. The meter does say low but, like the other comment said, it runs way longer. I used this phone all day and it didn't shut off. I just wish it had dual touch. But, I'm still happy with it.
This review seems completely biased to the reviewer's personal preferences and preconceived notions and is not helpful to anyone looking to evaluate phones on a level playing field. I have had no problems whatsoever with this phone and the screen is so clear that other people who have seen my phone are amazed at the clarity and the ease of use of this phone.
Please do not present yourself as unbiased in the future.
One more review where the reviewer doesn't take the time to figure out what he's using. Battery life is fine. Also I think there are a few cherry picked a few "cons" from other reviews because the wording sounds so similar.
I bought this the day it came out and I love everything about the phone except the battery. I doesn't even last a day. I can't sync anything. I don't dare do things that Android can do because I'm scared my phone will die and I can't make phone calls while on the go.
After perusing examiner.com I realize that you aren't a professional reviewer and anyone, in fact, can be a reviewer. I guess we can't really complain about this horrible review since you volunteered to be an examiner and your overall rating is a D. Its my own fault for not doing my research on you. Now, how to get back the last 18 mins of my life.
He must have never used a Smart phone in his life or he would know the battery life is pretty average. It should have a a 2.0 update and hopefully they will leave it stock so the phone will remain fast.
This phone is amazing. IT'S LIKE A MINI COMPUTER. BUT !! The battery life is the worst I have ever experienced in the 15 yrs of owning cell phones. I've turned off all apps and gps / widgets...... still 2 hrs TOPS battery to MAKE CALLS / EMAILS. My phone spends more time on chargers all day than on me. I'm torn.....technology... or a phone that I can talk on for hours??? I'm probably gonna end up taking it back :(
a tooon of people are having the same problems.
Just google samsung moment battery life and you will see thousands of people have this problem! UGH!! And its such a cool phone!!! :(
How can you right such a bad review of such a great phone ive owned a lot of smart phones and have had alot worst battery problems this phone. this review is horrable.
