Last year, HTC released the HTC Hero, a phone that was anything but heroic due to dust oozing in and out of the screen. This year, HTC released the Droid Incredible for Verizon--a good phone, but definitely not incredible. Now, Sprint is preparing for the release of the Samsung Epic 4G, which lives up to its name for the most part.

Build and Design
The Epic 4G is very different from last year's failed Samsung effort, the clunky Samsung Moment. Even though the Epic 4G houses a keyboard, the phone doesnt feel clunky. The edges are well rounded and when you open up the thumb keyboard, you don't feel like the phone is going to fall apart.
The screen is where the Samsung Epic 4G excels the most. It is really hard to describe this beauty unless you actually look at it--the screen looks at you more than you look at the screen. The colors are brilliantly crisp and the blacks don't show light leakage like they do on LED screens. The 480 X 800 resolution is perfect for a 4-inch screen. The capacitive touchscreen isn't overly sensitive like screens on many other recent capacitive screen devices (hello iPhone and Palm Pre).
The screen fades out slightly in direct sunlight, but far less than other recent Amoled-screen devices. Let's not forget that Samsung calls the Epic 4G screen a "Super-Amoled" screen, but in general, it's far more than super.
