Springtime sports cleaning (Video)

It is the first day of spring and it is time to dust off all of your outdoor sports gear and get ready for another season of what you enjoy the most. From rod and reels to golf clubs, it is time to get them ready to get out and play! Most people go out of their way in the off-season to clean and store their gear properly, but a lot of people just put them away and say they’ll clean them when it gets warm.

For those who just put them away, you’ll need to spend some extra time cleaning and perhaps upgrading some of your sports gear. Golf clubs that are not cleaned need to be washed and the club heads cleaned. You’ll be surprised how much dirt can get stuck in the grooves. It can feel like cement, but you need to get them cleaned out before hitting the links or you’ll be hitting shots out of the deep rough.

Rod and reels need a lot of love and attention this time of year if they have not been stored properly. The first thing you want to do is check your line. If it feels weak, and has been sitting in the sunlight, then you need to go ahead and replace it. Many times you can slightly pull the line and it will break. Before you add your new line, you may want to open up your reel and make sure that everything is clean on the inside. Bugs, dirt and grime can still be in there from the previous season. Clean it out and put new grease where it is needed. With a little elbow grease you can be one of the first and best out on the course or lake this year.
