Sometimes the older acts just get better with age.
At least that's how it appears in glancing at the nominees for the 55th Grammy Awards which airs this Sunday night at 8pm on CBS.
More than a dozen Rock Hall of Fame artists are being nominated in one or more categories.
Bruce Springsteen heads that list with three nominations this year: Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song ("We Take Care Of Our Own") and Best Rock Album ("Wrecking Ball").
Springsteen is probably a good bet to win at least one of these categories.
Since 1996, Springsteen has won at least one Grammy with every album he's released (The Ghost Of Tom Joad , The Rising, Devils & Dust, The Seeger Sessions, Magic and Working On A Dream).
Also noteworthy is that a song called "Springsteen" by country artist Eric Church is nominated in two categories including Best Country Song. Might we see a Church/Springsteen duet Sunday night? The Grammy's usually have a surprise or two in store for viewers.
Paul McCartney is nominated in the category Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album for "Kisses On The Bottom" which has him going head to head with fellow Rock Hall inductee Carole King ("A Holiday Carole").
McCartney is also being nominated for his classic album "Ram" in the Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package category along with fellow HOF members The Rolling Stones (Some Girls: Super Deluxe Edition) and Woody Guthrie (Woody at 100: The Centennial Collection).
McCartney and Guthrie's albums are also nominated in the Best Historical Album category along with The Beach Boys (The Smile Sessions--Deluxe Box Set).
Tom Waits is nominated for Best Alternative Music Album ("Bad As Me") pitting him against Fiona Apple, Bjork, M83 and Gotye.
Dr. John is one of the five nominees for Best Blues Album ("Locked Down").
Jimmy Cliff is nominated for Best Reggae Album ("Rebirth").
The music of Bob Marley is being nominated for "Marley" (Bob Marley and The Wailers) in the Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media.
The Beatles, Ray Charles and Janis Joplin are all nominees in the Best Album Notes category for compliation albums.
U2 is back in the Grammy game. The band is nominated for Best Long Form Music Video ("From The Sky Down").
And, of the non-performers, Glyn Johns is being nominated for Best Engineered Album Non-Classical for "Ashes & Fire".
