Springing into joy

A reader recently sent in a request on how to deal with anxiousness. Her life has become a spiral of doubts and disappointments, even though she has finally attained her dream job and is in a new relationship. She is struggling to find happiness inside and outside herself. Many of us lead this life as we are born into the physical wanting more, being told we need more to be happy.

Just like spring blossoms with new seedlings, we are to nourish our ideals of how joy can flower into our life sprouting it with all the riches we desire while becoming a student and teacher of supreme gratitude for being a force that flows with everything within our family, community and planet. We live in a freewill state of being. We have choices. There are choices to bring joy into our life or to continue with the mundane and dramatic. Joy comes from the bliss you create not something that you pick up at the store, give to someone else or have an instruction manual for – it is the process of cultivating action with full spirit and intention. Joy comes from the completeness found in gratitude. To be thankful for everything, even the challenges we face, is our spiritual life task.

Gratefulness invokes our soul to its greatest purpose, to be the embodiment of pure infinite unconditional love. When you practice gratitude, and yes it is a practice, the world opens up to a Heaven on Earth environment. Each child brings a twinkle to our eye, we hear the birds singing and we sing back; the woman with the groceries needs our help getting the door open with three kids tugging her, we do it without thinking; our eyes become all that we wish to see – the reflections are the images and reactions we create by living in gratitude.

Personal joy is a combination of release and gratitude. We are to release all that we cannot possible control. When we begin a new journey, we are to reach deep toward our inner wisdom that speaks to us, telling us, all things are working out in a perfect way and in perfect time. We try so hard to manipulate time so that we can achieve things faster but that is truly, a lost cause. We then endure unneeded suffering because we have staged an act that just will never be played. Letting go is the key to this release. Surrendering our mastership, we become co-pilot.

Giving into our eternal smallness in a grand universal sense brings our soul back in command. Go outside and take a walk in nature to understand this concept. We are just a spec in the evolution of life. The trees, thriving rivers, and the majestic landscapes can go on forever without humans. They too go through many changes and patterns of growth but they always survive and come back triumphantly. We too can weather the storms of heartache, disappointment and indecision. We are strong like the 100 year old Cottonwood tree that sits dominant next to the river. The difference is that the consciousness of the tree knows nothing other than perfection, it is this Divineness that we must believe in ourselves to be true. When we believe this to be so, we let the ebbs and flows of life carry us to adventure and awareness, not throw us overboard.

Find something today that brings true joy. This could be a person, place, or thing. Just something that invokes a sense of awe and wonder for its existence. When we come up with that image, create a symbol. Now, place that somewhere in our body that feels it needs healed or is having some pain. This can be a physical, mental, emotional or even spiritual discomfort. Place this symbol, the “joy widget”, on this spot and when we start to feel anxious, scared, or lost come back to this widget and press with breath to release this timeless access to our personally created joy. It is that easy. Removing ourselves from the moment which causes us pain by replacing it with a better sensation, joy, is a sure way to lessen the anxiety and cut down on the over-dramatic reactions that cause us suffering. Once the joy is automatic, we will begin to live with more peace and gratitude for all experiences. It takes 21 days to create a habit, give it a try.
