Springfield weather: The Week Ahead (Photos)

A cold front, associated with low pressure in southeastern Quebec, will slide across the Pioneer Valley early Monday. This will be followed by weak high pressure during the day. Expect a good amount of sunshine Monday, lighter winds and mild temperatures. Afternoon highs should reach into the low and mid 60s. West winds around 10 mph or less.

The cold front is forecast to stall across southern New England Monday night and return as a warm front by Tuesday. With the front in close proximity to the greater Springfield area skies will become mostly cloudy Monday night into early Tuesday, with partly cloudy conditions through the midday and afternoon hours. A chance for showers late Monday night and early on Tuesday. Warm air will stream northward on south to southwest winds of 10 to 20 mph. Lows Monday night in the mid to upper 40s. Highs Tuesday in the upper 60s to some low 70s.

Mostly cloudy skies and mild temperatures remain in place Tuesday night with the warm front lifting well north of the area. There is still a chance of showers. Lows near 50. However, as low pressure moves along the northern New England and Quebec border it will swing a cold front through here Tuesday night. This will cool temperatures back to seasonal values beginning Wednesday into the end of the work week.

This second cold front will also stall across southern New England. Cool air to the north of the front and much warmer air to the south of the front with unsettled weather near and along the frontal boundary. This set up will remain in place Wednesday through Friday and is the focus for our weather during that time frame. The biggest issue will be the exact placement of the frontal boundary. If it sets up south of our area we stay cool and damp. If the front nudges to the north of us we can expect warmer temperatures and a few showers at times. The best estimate at this time is for highs to generally be in the mid 50s to 60 degrees each day with the overnight lows in the mid 40s both Wednesday and Thursday night. Plenty of cloudiness and a threat for a shower at most anytime through Friday night.

Low pressure may ripple along the front Friday and move offshore Saturday. This will drag cooler air into the area Friday night into the start of next weekend, assuming all goes as planned. As a result, lows Friday night would dip back into the 30s.
