A line of heavy showers and thunderstorms is approaching the Hudson Valley this evening and may bring some locally heavy downpours later tonight in the greater Springfield area. The National Weather Service has a Flood Watch in place through 11 pm tonight that could be extended further. This shower activity is ahead of a cold front approaching western Massachusetts later tonight that is expected to move across the Pioneer Valley by midday Tuesday. Warm and humid conditions remain in place ahead of the front with the threat for additional showers and thunderstorms overnight and Tuesday. Most of the shower activity on Tuesday should be during the morning hours with an isolated shower or storm possible in the afternoon. Otherwise, skies begin to partially clear during Tuesday afternoon.
With the cold front east of us Tuesday night cooler and refreshing air will overspread the region as humidity levels and temperatures both take a fall. Partly cloudy skies should become mainly clear by morning.
The air mass change will be in full effect Wednesday and we can look forward to delightful weather for the remainder of the work week. One blip on the map will be a secondary cold front moving through later in the week with a reinforcing shot of cool air. This may produce a bit of cloudiness Thursday afternoon but at this time it is very unlikely that any showers will accompany the front. Behind the front we can expect quite a chilly night on Thursday night with high pressure building into the region through Friday then pushing east of us by the start of next weekend.
