The cooler and comfortable air mass has begun to take hold over the area tonight and will be with us through the upcoming weekend. After the brief return to summer like heat and humidity this week a cold front slowly did its job and pushed the muggy air mass out to sea during Friday, along with the showers and thunderstorms. All in all the upcoming weekend will be delightful with sunshine, periods of afternoon clouds and cool temperatures. It will feel more like early October than mid September. Great for apple picking, a hay ride, hiking, biking or any outdoor activity you may engage in.
High pressure will visit for the weekend and this provides generally fair skies and maintains the cool temperatures. Humidity levels will be very comfortable as well. However, there is some instability in the upper levels and this will likely cause some fair weather afternoon cloudiness, although no shower activity is expected. The nights will be cool, particularly Saturday night when the mercury dips to around 40 degrees in many locations.
The high will move south of the area by late Sunday and out to sea. This will open the door for an approaching cold front that is currently forecast to move across western Massachusetts during the day on Monday, perhaps setting off a few showers in the afternoon. Once the front moves east of us another push of cool and dry air overspreads the region for Tuesday.
