Springfield weather: Mild temperatures this weekend, areas of fog and drizzle (Photos)

Most of this weekend will feature low clouds, spotty drizzle and fog patches, with above normal temperatures continuing. There may be some brightening of the skies at times, especially Sunday afternoon, but most of the time it will be dreary out. A brief appearance by the sun cannot be completely ruled on Sunday afternoon. The worst of the fog and drizzle will be early Saturday morning, again at night and early Sunday morning. A spot shower or two are also possible. High pressure offshore will slowly move away from the area over the weekend and give way to an approaching cold front Sunday night. Expect high temperatures Saturday in the mid 40s to the upper 40s on Sunday. Overnight lows around 35 degrees tonight and staying really mild Sunday night as lows will stay in the 40s. Winds remaining 10 mph or less through the weekend.

The approaching cold front will push through western Massachusetts very early Monday morning. A few showers are likely to accompany the front in the morning, with mostly cloudy skies for the afternoon. It will become windy behind the front. High temperatures Monday will peak in the morning, near 50 degrees, before collapsing through the 40s during the afternoon hours. Monday night will be much colder from recent nights and expect low temperatures to fall into the low to mid 20s by Tuesday sunrise.

The cold front will settle to our south later Monday and Monday night, with a wave of low pressure likely developing along the front. The question becomes will the low move close enough to throw any precipitation at us during the day. We do expect clouds from this system, with just a chance of a sprinkle or mix of snow over southeast Massachusetts, but chances locally of any precipitation are remote at this time. Cooler temperatures, with highs in the low to mid 40s. Lows Tuesday night in the low to mid 20s.

Wednesday should turn out partly cloudy as the low south of us moves out to sea. Behind this low we can expect temperatures to continue to trend cooler, returning to more seasonal levels. Highs in the upper 30s and lows in the low to mid 20s.

Much colder air is expected by the end of next week and by Friday high temperatures might not get out of the 20s.
