The Cardinals have announced all of their minor league rosters yesterday, including the Springfield Cardinals.

The team is planning on carrying three catchers. Cody Stanley and Travis Tartamella are returning to the team while Jonathan Keener will join them. Stanley is one of the better catching prospects in the system, but carrying Audry Perez and signing veteran Ed Easley.

The infield consists of primarily new players. Curt Smith and Matt Williams have played at Springfield in the past; Smith has been away from the organization for a few years, but was signed as a minor league free agent. Jonathan Rodriguez and Patrick Wisdom are both moving up to Double A; joining them are Rule V pickup Greg Miclat and international free agent Aledmys Diaz.

The outfield is anchored by prospect James Ramsey, who spent part of last year with the team. He’ll be joined by Mike O’Neill, who manned the outfield with him last year. David Popkins will join the team after spending 2013 with Palm Beach. Rounding out the outfield is waiver pickup Rafael Ortega; this will be his third year repeating Double A.

The pitching staff is promising. Minor league pitcher of the year Zach Petrick will return to the level he finished at. The righty should be joined in the rotation by Seth Blair and Kurt Heyer. The rest of the pitching staff includes righties Sam Gaviglio and Logan Billbrough and lefties Justin Wright, Jonathan Cornelius, Dean Kiekhefer, Danny Miranda, Ryan Sherriff and Ronnie Shaban.

The team, managed by Mike Shildt, should be pretty comparable to last year, if not better. Stephen Piscotty and Tim Cooney will be gone, but the team will have Ramsey and Petrick for longer, along with Rodriguez and Wisdom starting the year there.
