Spring Turkey Season coming up! (Photos)

Yep, it is that time once again Spring Turkey season is soon upon us, so get to the range, check that your favorite hunting tool is tuned up and working accurately, practice those turkey calls and start locating the the roosting sites, and if possible get that all important WRITTEN permission to hunt on private property.

Also do not forget that in addition to a current hunting license or junior license a upland game stamp is required in many states to hunt turkey, in Texas for example this runs $7.

Spring Turkey season starts as early as the end of March in California, with North Dakota on April 13th, and Texas following on April 15th, with New York starting on May 1, 2013. California starts the last Saturday in March and runs for 37 consecutive days, and has the following conditions:

Bag Limit:
1 bearded turkey per day, 3 per season. No person shall take more than a total of 3 turkeys during the general, archery, and additional season for junior hunters, combined.

(A bearded turkey is one having a beard visible through the breast feathers.)

North Dakota had a lottery with an application date of February 13, 2013, and requires 4 different licenses amounting to $28, with the season running from April 13, to May 19, 2013. New York starts on May 1, and runs for 30 days. As you can see each state has its own timing and duration as well as requirements, so make sure that you check with your authorities (DNR, Dept. of Fish & Wildlife, etc.). Also be aware that many of the states do not have the information on their websites yet, so place a call into the authority to check on this information.
