Since I won’t be going out yard-saling this weekend (look out window at this time…), I’ll take this unwanted extra time to divulge the stuff grabbed up during last weekend’s season opener. Here we go-
The first part of March is not necessarily optimal hunting weather; people are not quite in the mood to hang out on the driveway when temps are hovering in the mid 40s. A few however, dressed for the occasion, opened up shop, and allowed me the first purchases of the new year. Ah, spring.
Of the $27.00 spend on the day, $25 was at the same sale, where most of the items bought were not the moneymakers I had envisioned. Still, allow me to share- in the bottom of a plastic clothes basket were two stereo components from the 1990s: a Panasonic SA-1050 amplifier and a matching TX-950 AM/FM tuner. Let the pile begin…Out of a box of assorted books were flushed 10 Little Golden books from the 1950s. Most were pretty well used, but most were also first printings (look for the “A” near the binding on the last page!) so I took a chance on them. The pile grows…Another lap around the stacks and I found this box with a bunch of CDs and a piece of head gear that looked like a cross between an old set of headphones and a pair of ski goggles. It turns out to be a Zygon “Learning Machine” from the 1990s and it came complete with a load of quick learning, mind enhancing, metaphysical type CDs. The FTC didn’t like Zygon's inflated claims and the whole mess was pulled from the market after lawsuits were filed. It was a fairly expensive investment (original retail was over $300) so I’m hoping there are still a few diehards that want to upgrade their system with a few subliminal CDs to make them feel more confident, more relaxed and learn basic French in a few heartbeats, or perhaps replace that worn old headset with the lightly used model I’ve come across. More for the pile…How about an old 1970s set of used pool balls? Well, here you go. From Ajay, a nice looking set of quality Belgium made billiard balls, complete with crusty box. Add it to the pile along with a Russel Wright American Modern creamer dish, an aluminum silent butler, and a box full of candles to be used in jack-o-lanterns next Halloween and then head off to the check out lane
The other $2.00 was spent on a 1978 vintage Simon game. A classic that seems to be selling for more than I remember! Hopefully this will bring in around $30.00.
On Friday, I found only one sale. In Broomfield a fellow was selling off some of his left over brew-beer-at-home odds and ends. I picked up a couple of bottle cappers, few tap handles and spigots, a few hydometers, and a 3 pound coil of copper (for cooling wort, I’m told) for $15.00. The copper alone is worth $10.00, so hopes are up for making a few dollars on this little load.
Some of these goods will sell, some will sit around until I donate them or have my own garage sale, but I don’t really care- it just felt good to buy something. Oh, look…it’s still snowing.
