With temperatures in Colorado hovering in the 50 to 60 degrees Fahrenheit range, there is a lot of spring skiing conditions out there! Here are some tips to help you ski the slushy snow:
- Use the right wax- Make sure you use a warmer temperature wax since there is more moisture content in the slush. This will keep your skis gliding versus feeling like they are sticking to the snow.
- Slice through the snow- Most people think you have to push the snow around. This will make you very tired, quickly. Instead think of your skis as warm knives. All you have to do is tip them slightly and let them slice through the slush.
- Go a little faster- so you can tip your skis and get the slicing happening!
- Follow the sun- ski on east facing slopes in the morning and western facing slopes in the afternoon. This way you will be skiing the snow that is warming throughout the day.
- Plan your day- Usually it is really firm snow in the morning and then super slushy snow in the afternoon. Instead of being first in the liftline, you may want to sleep-in or grab a coffee to allow the snow to soften up. Again, in the afternoon when the slush turns deeper and deeper, you may want to head to the bar to save those legs for tomorrow.
Follow these simple tips and you will love the slush!
