Less than a 2 hour drive southwest of Kansas City, you can find the Spring Migration Triathlon. The triathlon consists of a 400 meter swim in the Emporia State University pool, followed by a 20k outdoor bike course and a 5k street run.
Hosted in Emporia, Kansas, the Spring Migration Triathlon is the closest race to a full outdoor triathlon you will get to around Kansas City until Heritage Park in May.
The individual entry fee is $60 until 4/6/12, $70 from 4/7/11 through 4/13/2012. Team entry fee is $90, until 4/6/12, $100 from 4/7/11 through 4/13/2012. Contact Casey (see contact info below) if interested in entering a team. Registration closes on April 13th at 11:59p.m. All participants must be 15 years or older on 04/15/2011. Please submit an accurate estimate of your 400 meter swim time for seeding. There will be no race day registration due to the seeding process.
This event is USAT Sanctioned. Participants that are not members of USA Triathlon are required to purchase a one-day USAT membership for a fee of $10.
Race day check-in will be at the ESU Physical Education Building from 7:15 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Race begins at 9:00 a.m. The first swimmer will begin at 9:00 and one swimmer will start every 15 seconds.
The top three male and female finishers will receive awards. Age group awards are given to the top three in every age group. There will be an award for the first male and female Emporia finisher.
No headphones will be permitted during the race. An approved helmet must be worn during the cycling portion of the event. No drafting will be permitted during the cycling portion.
