Spring means dog training at Foothills Animal Shelter

Foothills Animal Shelter (FAS - formerly known as Table Mountain Animal Center) is now offering dog training classes to the public. Just in time for spring when dogs are ready to go out and about, Jennifer Strickland, Director of Community Relations, says FAS classes are now available to help dogs become happier and better companions regardless of age, breed or size.

The first sessions to be offered include both puppy and basic obedience classes. Both groups will run six consecutive classes, which will take place on Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings. Attendees may also purchase training items, such as proper leashes, gentle leaders and harnesses, at the shelter. The classes are as follows:

Pawsitively Puppy

  • Description - This class is for puppies ages 4-8 months. Puppies will learn leash training, manners, sit, down, recall, socialization and playtime.
  • Dates - Thursdays (1st session March 3 through April 7) or Saturdays (1st session March 5 through April 9)
  • Location - Foothills Animal Shelter at 580 McIntyre Street, Golden, CO, 80401. Located on the Jefferson County Fairgrounds near 6th Avenue and Indiana.
  • Times - Thursdays are 6 to 6:45 p.m. and Saturdays are 9 to 9:45 a.m.
  • Cost - Classes are $120 per six-week session. For dogs adopted from FAS, classes are discounted to $110 per six-week session (a savings of $10).

Basic Obedience

  • Description - This class is for dogs who have completed Pawsitively Puppy or are eight months of age and older. In this class, dogs will fine tune leash training, manners, sits, downs, recalls and will learn leave it, watch and calm.
  • Dates - Thursdays (1st session March 3 through April 7) or Saturdays (1st session March 5 through April 9)
  • Location - Foothills Animal Shelter at 580 McIntyre Street, Golden, CO, 80401. Located on the Jefferson County Fairgrounds near 6th Avenue and Indiana.
  • Times - Thursdays are 7 to 8 p.m. and Saturdays are 10 to 11 a.m.
