The first day of spring is officially here! Okay! We had day light savings time, and turned our clocks for the better. There is now more daylight at the end of this wintery tunnel. The weather is beginning to turn for the better, day by day, and more birds are singing with joy! We are starting to get our motivation back to getting back into shape and losing weight. But where to start?! How about some spring cleaning!
As the saying goes, "a cluttered space, causes a cluttered mind," clearing space within our homes, offices, and kitchens may have a similar effect. Start out by first hitting the bedroom. Try and go through all of your clothing, and if you haven't worn it in a year, purge it! This will help make room for some new workout clothes! Take a look at shoes, socks, and sports bras, and if they seem to be pretty worn, or have that musty -"I sweat like a pig" smell, its time to replace them. A good rule of thumb for replacing shoes is, if you wear them regularly, they should be replaced every 3-6 months. A great excuse to go shopping!
Next stop: the office. A lot of people tend to overlook the office space with spring cleaning. In all actuality, this is just as important as the bedroom. In the office we have maybe a computer, a desk, papers upon papers, bills upon bills, a scheduler, and maybe a half dead fern in the corner. To quote it again "a cluttered space, causes a cluttered mind." Organizing and clearing out unneeded papers will take a big burden off your shoulders, in addition will help you catch up on bills that have fallen through the cracks. And that scheduler you found under all that mess, this is where you can plan out your week. Here you can make meal plans for the week, every work out for the week, grocery shopping, and massage appointments. This all making you more efficient during the week!
Lastly, THE KITCHEN! It's time to raid the kitchen, and not because you're hungry. You want weight loss? then it's time to make a change! Go through every shelf, and toss anything you have not RE-opened within 2 years and/or has expired; spices, herbs, flour, etc. While you're at it, why don't you go ahead and throw out all of those goodies that have been keeping you comfort during the winter months. Anything that is processed, and in a box (with the exception of grains and pasta), full of sugar or fat- get rid of it! Remember, don't be fooled of those snacks that are "made with whole grain," or "only 100 calories," they aren't any better for you, and will not aid in weight loss.
