Spring growth spurt (Photos)

Looking around Carlsbad lately there are a lot of new construction projects in progress. Along with the downtown revitalization project underway, the village of Carlsbad is experiencing a burst of new growth. The “Village Revitalization Project” is more of an enhancement to the existing beach-side atmosphere Carlsbad already possesses, with minor additions such as bike racks, benches and decorative items. The existing boutique community caters to its local residents as well as tourists from around the globe all year long.

As for locals or those that frequent Carlsbad on a regular basis, new places to eat and shop are quite exciting, including two new café’s due to open any day now (hopefully)!

Café Topes- Taking shape with detailed ironwork and signage, located on the northwest corner of Roosevelt Street (across from the Boys and Girls Club) the location is ideal on that side of Carlsbad Village Drive, the location was previously an antique/consignment shop. A drawing in the front window details the finished storefront, which will share parking with the adjacent New York Pizzeria (which is only open in the evenings), an ideal community use of space and cooperation. More information to come…

Café Panini- Extensive patio work is being done on this nook of a space across from the end of State St. (also on the South side of Carlsbad Village Drive), which promises to be an inviting hang-out or lunch option as Spring approaches and every second outdoors counts, especially during a lunch break! While there are plenty of sit down, dine in, full meal options, as well as fast food options, an original, simple, gourmet Panini is a nice healthy option.

38° (Carlsbad)- Caught your eye lately, the barely ‘old’ Catch Restaurant that occupied a former Blockbuster building was replaced by 38°, according to the signage on the building, serving American pub food and of course craft beers. An attractive old brick oven stands outside the patio, not open for business as of yet, they will be tasked with defining their niche and separating themselves from Pizza Port, a local favorite, in their beer and food selections. More information to come…

In Carlsbad, respectful and appropriate change is good, growth is abundant and it’s almost Spring, time to get outside and soak it all in!!!

If you know of any more openings in the Village of Carlsbad, share them by adding to the comments section.
