Here’s the great news: the Cleveland Botanical Garden www.cbgarden.org has opened its “Big Spring” celebration, which runs from March 22 – April 27.
It’s a month filled with activities, fun and education for every member of the family, especially the kids. This is the second year of Cleveland Botanical Garden’s Big Spring, and it promises “a curious world where kids can crawl, play and discover in an enchanting garden that towers above them and surrounds them with wonderful, vibrant color.”
After a woefully long winter of drab skies, bitter cold, and seemingly endless snow, who isn’t ready to find some fun and some vibrant color?
Kids can choose from a variety of inventive activities including dressing up in the wings and antennae of their favorite insects at the Toadstool Theatre. They can also perform on the stage, and learn fascinating facts about insects – a great photo opportunity for parents.
The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party allows kids to make toast and have tea in a special garden, while the Ladybug Labyrinth is a maze made of hedges, where kids can run and enjoy puzzles, and learn ladybug facts.
The Discovery Log lets children come “eye to eyes” with critters of all types, including frogs and toads, and other “creepy-crawley insects.”
The Puddle Bug Boat races add another element of spring fun at the Botanical Gardens. You can purchase and decorate your own boat, and sail it on the fish pond.
Kids can also join in the daily “honeybee parade” with Polly at 12:30 pm. There will also be an additional parade each Wednesday at 5:30 pm.
Also offered are plant society shows on select weekends, which display a wide variety of plants.
