The northeast US is finally beginning to see a gradual rise in temperatures with the advent of spring. Robins are everywhere and Daffodils are beginning to sprout up from the beneath the ground. Many of us are still cleaning up the debris outside our houses which was left by one of the harshest winters on record for our area. But, the weather didn’t just take a toll on our landscapes and our houses. It also affected us mentally and, in some cases, emotionally. For those of us who are generally optimists, we are bouncing back although it seems to have taken a bit more effort than usual, even for us. For the rest of us, well, let’s just say we are clinging to every day the temperature is above 50 degrees Fahrenheit until spring is finally showing itself in the greening of the grass and the buds on the trees.
Just as we clean up our houses and our yards, we need to remember to take care of our spiritual “yards” as well. While we were in our winter “doldrums”, it was harder to feel that inner lightness and supporting faith. We did our best to put one foot in front of the other, so to speak, and get through the last several months, never mind being able to let our inner light shine. Let’s congratulate ourselves on still being here, and moving forward! It has been said that showing up is half the battle. Let’s help each other show up and more this spring. As we look at ourselves in the bathroom mirror each morning, let’s remind ourselves that we – are – still – here! We made it through the dark and back into the light of spring. It’s time to clear out any remaining “thought cobwebs” of winter, and be spring!
