Spring cleaning - donating items

When spring cleaning it may be tempting to just throw away things that you may no longer use. However, it's much more frugal to donate your unwanted goods. Or of course you can do a yard or garage sale – but not everybody may have the time to do that.

The great thing about donating your used items is that you will be helping somebody else that is in need that can’t afford to buy things brand new. Plus in addition to that you will be able to claim your donation on your taxes.

Now of course some things you shouldn’t donate. For example clothing that has holes in it and chairs that have broken legs. But as long as something is still in reasonable condition then you can donate to places such as Salvation Army and Community Aid. Just be sure to make note of what you are donating so that you can claim the approximate value.

Donations aren’t limited to things such as clothing, furniture &and electronics though. You can also donate food – cold and room temperature, health and beauty care items. You can also donate stationary type products, which is a much needed item when new school years are starting. Donations can be made to churches, but many of them may not provide a tax deduction slip. While the churches may not provide a slip, they may be able to recommend a place. If you are in the Camp Hill, Pennsylvania area New Hope Ministries is a great place to go.
