Spring Break Plans? Don't Forget Fluffy!

With the weather warming up and spring break fast approaching, many families are starting to plan their vacations. After a long winter, we are all feeling a bit of cabin fever, and our pets are no exception. In all our vacation planning, making arrangements for our four-legged counterparts can sometimes be pushed to the back burner. Nancy Marshall of  Fetch! Pet Care NW Las Vegas asks you to consider the following when planning for your pet-

Home Alone: It is never alright to leave your pet home alone while you are on vacation without someone to care for them. Making sure the house is at the proper temperature and leaving extra food and water out is not the only answer. There are a countless number of things that can go wrong under this scenario – all of which will make for a very stress-filled vacation.

Find a Reliable Sitter: While friends and family members can certainly be trustworthy, pet sitting isn’t their profession. Chances are they won’t put as much effort into the care that you’d like or immediately know what to do in case of an emergency. You should look for someone who considers this a business opportunity, not a favor. Look for a professional sitter, such as Fetch! Pet Care, who can provide references and is fully bonded and insured.

Meet-and-Greet: Before you leave on vacation, make sure to meet with the sitter so you can introduce them to your pets and see how everyone interacts. The visit also gives you a chance to familiarize the sitter with your home and personal preferences.

Establish a Procedure: It’s important to familiarize the sitter with your pets’ daily routine.  Make sure the sitter is available to feed and walk them at their normal times and will keep to your requested schedule.  This will help ensure your pets don’t experience separation anxiety.

Take them along: If your pets enjoy traveling, there are a host of options for “pet friendly” airlines and hotels that make it easy to bring your pet along. Even though you have your pet with you, that doesn’t mean you’ll have ample free time to walk and feed them. If you find pet-friendly accommodations, look into a nationwide professional pet sitting service that will come to your hotel while you’re away – this option ensures that your four legged friend not feel left out of all the fun.

Spring break will be here before you know it, so make sure to plan ahead not just for your family, but for your furry side-kick too! While there may be many alternatives to hiring a pet sitter, there are few that will benefit them as well.  Just make sure to take into consideration the well being of your furry friend, and never underestimate the relief of knowing your pet is in good hands. With a pet sitter your pet doesn't have to undergo the stress of traveling, being boarded in kennel, or having to stay in any unfamiliar environments. They are looked after in the comfort and safety of their own home. A well laid plan will ensure a much needed recharge for the family, and a grateful, happy pet as well. So, get to planning, and here's to a great spring break!
