Wanting to show their appreciation to the Rockaway and Breezy Point first responders (police, fire, sanitation workers), who willingly put their lives on the line in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, California’s Air Force Village West is sponsoring Spring Break for Heroes. What this means is that beginning March 20th, 2013, some lucky couples will be warming themselves in sunny Southern California.
Vacation locations are as multitudinous as snowflakes in a blizzard, but few offer the diversity found at Air Force Village West (www.AFVW.com). To the north, snow-capped mountains create a picture-perfect backdrop. From the west ocean breezes scent the air with a salty freshness and chase troubles away. Lush green lawns and gently swaying palm trees set the stage like the artistry of French post-impressionist Paul Gauguin. On 221 acres, AFVW has something for everyone – golf, swimming, fitness center, computer lab, billiards, kilns, card rooms, wood shop, and nature paths. At 862 feet above sea level, AFVW is home to breathtaking hiking and biking trails. For those inclined to exploration. AFVW is only 61 miles from Los Angeles, 255 miles from Las Vegas, 121 miles from Mexico, and 91 miles from San Diego.
Winter wasn’t kind to Rockaway heroes. The vacation drawing, originally scheduled on Valentine’s Day, had to be rescheduled to February 20th, 2013, after Nemo blanketed the northeast with tons of snow and bitter cold. However, on the 20th the names of eight lucky couples were drawn, and the lucky winners will soon be personally contacted by a staff member at AFVW to facilitate a customized vacation/travel plan. The Ritz should be like this!
The couples will be met at Ontario International Airport and driven to their accommodations at the Village. After allowing time to unpack and unwind, the vacationers will join CEO Jim Melin and residents of AFVW for an “appreciation” meal. Then, they will be given an itinerary detailing their customized concierge-focused vacation in beautiful Southern California.
For more information of Spring Break for Heroes, interested first responders should contact Event Coordinator Bonnie Russell at 858 324-1717 or bonnie@personalpublications.com.
In a recent interview, Russell said, “AF Village West remains a perfect example of active retirees who continue to give back to the community, even when that community happens to be 3,000 miles away. AF Village West is the good neighbor jewel of Riverside County and sets the standard for retirement communities nationally.”
Air Force Village West is located at 17050 Arnold Drive, Riverside, California 92518.
