Spring break 2013: Cancun tops the list (Photos)

STA Travel, is a boutique travel agency, specializing in travel planning for college students and young adults. The agency released its list of hot travel locales for spring break 2013.

Cancun, Mexico, is the first choice of many of the college-age travelers. Other hot spots include, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, Panama City Beach, Fla., and Jamaica.

Jan. 26, The Miami Herald reports, "Teresa Cordova, an STA spokeswoman, says the list is based on numbers of bookings by STA customers, who are mostly in the 18-25 age range, for all-inclusive spring break trips.

Many U.S. colleges have a week off from classes mid-semester, typically in March, and it’s an annual tradition for some students – especially those from campuses in cold parts of the country – to spend the week soaking up sunshine and partying in warmer climates."

According to STA, the student travel rate has declined due to varied interest in other spring break activities, not associated with beach travel. Other activities include, volunteering, career pursuits, hiking adventures, and extreme sports excursions.
