Spring Boost for Climbing Jasmine

Fort Worth gardeners are rapidly getting their  existing trees, shrubs, and plants ready for the normal Spring growth surge.  Give your climbing Jasmine plants a spring boost by adding some acidic ferilizer.... they grow well in an acid-type soil.  Even if your Jasmine vines have "dead" leaves, don't dispair.  Adding some much needed ferilizer to a particular plants growing soil will boost and increase its recovery from winter season cold.

  1. Start by gently brushing off some of the dead leaves to gain access to where the Jasmine plant vines are at ground level. Don't worry about removing all of the dead leaves, they will soon begin to fall off as the plant establishes new leaf growth. If you know some of the very thin Jasmine plant vines are definitely dead go ahead and prune those if desired. Do not cut through the larger main vines leading to the soil!
  2. Fill a clean, plastic gallon milk carton jug with a water-acid fertilizer mixture obtained from your favorite garden store. Follow the fertilizer manufacturers recommendations for the dilution of the acidic fertilizer mix and application. Usually one gallon for one or two plants will suffice.
  3. Carefully pour the water-acidic fertilizer mix around the vine structure where it comes up from the soil. Anywhere you have a vine growth at the ground, pour some of the mixture. Let it soak in for five minutes, then use garden hose spray nozzle to liberally water the Jasmine root area you just fertilized. Water several minutes until soil is fully soaked.
  4. Wait a few days and watch for additional new growth.  When it appears, gently brush away by hand any dead leaves. Repeat process according to ferilizer manufacturer recommendatios.  When you have a lot of new growth, begin foilage feeding with an appropriate foilage fertilizer applied by garden hose spray attachment.
