When spring arrives in Central Virginia at 7:02 a.m. on Wednesday, it will be a crisp 38 degrees in Lynchburg, according to weather.com.
Temperatures will rise during the day to a high of 53 before dropping down into the upper-20s on Wednesday night.
It won't feel much like spring on Thursday, the first full day of spring, as the highs only reach into the upper-30s. The weekend will bring cool temperatures and the chance for more winter weather.
That's the way spring often goes here in Central Virginia. Always take a coat or jacket with you in the morning, but be prepared with layers in case it warms up during the day.
But, as March gives way to April, warmer days will arrive. That's great news for families who have been cooped up for too many cold days this winter.
Spring break for many area schools begins on April Fool's Day. Some families will hit the road to warmer climates for spring break vacations at Myrtle Beach or Disney World.
Other families will stay in town and enjoy day trips to Roanoke or Richmond during the week. Some parents will work the entire week of spring break but may be able to get out and enjoy local parks in the afternoon or evening.
Without the daily homework routine, a few hours are freed up for family time, regardless of whether or not parents have to work.
Spring is a great time to get out in the yard and clean up flower beds to prepare for planting in April. Spring's also a good time to go through closets as you do spring cleaning at home.
Some of the best things about spring are the awakening of nature with beautiful spring blossoms everywhere, the long days of sunshine, the start of spring sports and Easter.
For many families, spring means spending more time outdoors. Whether your kids play spring sports or you enjoy afternoons at the park, rejoice because spring is here.
