Spring 2013 maternity wear

With celebrities like Kate Middleton, Jessica Simpson and Kim Kardashian expecting babies, maternity fashion is having an extended moment in the spotlight. Gone are the days in which maternity clothes were shapeless and ugly. These days, stylish moms such as Heidi Klum and Victoria Beckham have mate maternity clothing that is cute and stylish, yet comfy enough for any pregnant woman. Here are some trends in maternity fashion for Spring 2013.

Skinny Stripes:

Forget the “rule” that pregnant people shouldn't wear horizontal stripes. This spring, several maternity designers are offering adorable sundresses with striped prints and color blocking. An Olan Maternity dress available this season features a black cami top with an adorable diagonal striped skirt. This dress, which can be purchased at Nordstrom in the Cherry Creek mall, is fun and sassy, yet comfy and functional. It is tailored enough to be worn with nice shoes, but casual enough that it can be dressed down with a canvas slip on.

Boat necks:

For ladies who are not into letting the girls shine, boat necks are a great option. This neckline sits higher than v-necks and scoop necks, and its straight line will accentuate the neckline without showing too much cleavage. These tops tend to appear more often in the winter and spring, but short-sleeved styles are flattering as well. For a cute spring look, head to Old Navy in Flatrion Crossing for a short-sleeved boat neck maternity dress.

Color:

As with a lot of fashions this spring, maternity wear is showcasing pops of color. Being pregnant can make a woman feel frumpy, and adding a pop of color is a good way to combat this. With a good selection of flowy dresses, cardigans and shoes, there are many ways in which to add color to your maternity wardrobe. From a coral pink, which flatters a wide variety of skin tones to mint green, which is all the rage this season, there are many colors available to brighten your maternity wear. Being pregnant is a great excuse to buy new clothes. There is no reason to walk around in oversized tees and sweats (unless you want to – nobody is judging). If you are a fun, fashion loving gal, take that style and incorporate it into your maternity wardrobe.
