Valentine’s Day is celebrated as a holiday in honor of love. Yet, so many women and girls are abused in the name of love. On February 14, 2013, over one billion people in 207 countries danced to demand the end of violence against girls and women. This year, more will gather to “Rise, release, dance and demand justice.” On Friday, February 14, 2014, the dancers of Tribal Fire are hosting the One Billion Rising Hafla.

Middle Eastern dancers from Northeast Ohio and beyond will be performing in this family-friendly show with all proceeds being donated to the Akron Women’s Shelter. The show is from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church-Akron, 3300 Morewood, Akron, Ohio 44333-3459. Tickets are $10 at the door.

Scheduled performers include Tribal Fire, Kali’s Fire, Tribe Dakini, Ellway Huang, Shadow Clan, Renee Kogler, Little Wing Dance Company, Troupe Abira, Medina Shimmy Mob, Farah Page, Elianae Stone, Aminah Louise, Erika Elliot, Shanrae Sahira, Awakened Muse, Jezebel Shuvani, Cassandra Al Warda, Farah and Cassandra Duet, Gems of Egypt, Helen Morrison and De Queens.
