Have you ever been at the corner of a light and wondered what to do about the person standing on the corner asking for help? Lots of thoughts might go through your head.
“Should I give them money?”
“Should I take them out for a meal?”
“Should I just ignore them?”
In light of that concern, this past week, the mothers and daughters of Evident Grace Fellowship and New Life in Christ Church partnered to address the above questions and meet the above need. Representatives, Amy Duncan and Heather O’Hara, gathered their resources and put together something called “Blessing Bags”. Basically, a Blessing Bag is a ready-made gift to give to someone in need with a few basics like water, gum, a few toiletries, and some food contained in a Ziplock bag easily stored in your car.
The ladies of New Life in Christ graciously opened up their monthly women’s breakfast to Evident Grace, and the two spent the hour partnering with their daughters to assemble bags and cast vision. The ladies understand that many challenges remain ahead in caring for the homeless populations of Spotsylvania and Fredericksburg, but they also see this effort as a great first start.
Look for more updates here at the Examiner as these two churches look to expand the effort and partner with other fellowships in the area. They challenge readers to consider putting together Blessing Bags themselves. They just ask what might be a simple, collection of inexpensive gifts that might meet a need. Find them, assemble them, and give them away.
Find. Assemble. Give.
