Spotlight on the Shemer Art Center

See also

Founded in 1984 as a generous gift by Mrs. Shemer, the Shemer Art Center is a “home for the arts” and chosen as one of the twenty-one Points of Pride for the City of Phoenix. The Shemer Art Center is primarily an educational facility meant to nurture creativity and imagination in all ages through exhibitions, classes, and various art programs.

The Shemer Art Center is currently hosting their free annual show of work by Arizona Artist Guild Scholarship recipients. The exhibition was curated by Heather Couch, graduate student at Arizona State University, and will be on view until April 24, 2014. For more on the exhibition, visit the Facebook event page.

Since the weather is so beautiful, you should also take a moment to walk through the Shemer Art Center’s new Sculpture Garden. The Shemer Center’s lush gardens and orchards provide a peaceful setting for large-scale outdoor pieces by some of Arizona’s premier sculptors. The pieces are for sale, so please inquire if anything catches your eye. A percentage of the proceeds will benefit the Shemer Art Center.

The Shemer Art Center offers youth and adult art classes in ceramics, drawing, painting, printmaking, jewelry-making, sculpture, book arts, photography, and other disciplines. Their schedule also includes weekend workshops and evening classes, making it possible for every Phoenix resident to find an outlet for their creativity at the center. The spring schedule is now available, so please click HERE to view the full list of classes, and for registration information.

The Shemer Art Center is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday 10:00am – 3:00pm and Thursday evenings from 6:30pm – 8:30pm.

The Shemer Art Center offers various membership levels, so please visit here for more information.

The Shemer Art Center is always on the lookout for talented volunteers to help with day-to-day activities, and for special events. Please visit their website for more information on how to apply.
