Spotlight on the HumCo Author Festival; poet and teacher, Francisco X. Alarcon

In a previous article, the Examiner informed the public about the upcoming Humboldt County Author Festival, which takes place October 19 - 22, 2011 throughout Humboldt County.  There will be 25 authors attending the festival and it is the Examiner's intention to highlight each of the authors and their books between now and the beginning of the event.  In this article, the spotlight will shine on the poet and University of California, Davis lecturer, Francisco X. Alarcon.

According to Wikipedia, Alarcon was born in southern California in the early 50's.  He moved to Guadalajara, Mexico at the age of 6 and attended Cal State Long Beach and Stanford University.  He has won several awards for his work, including twice receiving the Pura Belpre' Honor Award.  His works include Snake Poems: An Aztec Invocation, Iguanas in the Snow and Other Winter Poems/ Iguanas en la Nieve Y Otros Poemas de Invierno, and Angels Ride Bikes/Los Angeles Andan En Bicicleta: And Other Fall Poems/Y Otros Poemas de Otono.

A search of the U. C. Davis website reveals that Alarcon is in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese and that he teaches Intermediate Spanish for Native Speakers and Chicano Culture.
