Humboldt County residents and visitors will have the opportunity to meet and talk with more than two dozen authors of books for children and young adults when the Humboldt County Author Festival takes place in October of 2011. One of the authors scheduled to attend is award-winning author, Larry Brimner. Brimner has written more than 155 fiction and non-fiction books for young readers.
Born in Florida and raised in Alaska by parents from Birmingham, Alabama, Brimner realized early on that he wanted to be a writer. Although not officially published, he wrote his book in first grade. Since that time, this author has gone on to write books that have won such prestigious awards as:
Jane Addams Honor Book Award - Birmingham Sunday (Calkins Creek, 2010)
International Reading Association Children's Choice Book - BMX Freestyle (Watts, 1987); Snowboarding (PUB, 1998); The Official M & M's Book of the Millemneum (PUB, 2000); The Littlest Wolf (HarperCollins, 2002)
Jane Addams Book Award - We Are One: The Story of Bayard Rustin (Calkins Creek, 2007)

Larry Brimner will be visiting both Arcata Elementary and Grant Elementary schools in October. He will also be present at the Humboldt County Library on Saturday, October 22, 2011 to talk with fans and sign autographs.
