Spotlight on the Arizona State University Art Museum

See also

Often overlooked, the Arizona State University Art Museum is an artistic playground designed to inspire a diverse community of artists and audiences through innovative, educational, and interdisciplinary programming. Named “the single most impressive venue for contemporary art in Arizona” by Art in America magazine, the ASU Art Museum exhibitions focus on contemporary art, new media, ceramics, prints, and art inspired by Arizona and the Southwest.

Offering Free admission, the ASU Art Museum strives to connect and inform, to integrate art and life, and is doing so through four new program initiatives: Global Arizona, Social Studies, InterLab, and Moving Targets.

In partnership with Cuba, Brazil, and Argentina, Global Arizona strives to explore the interaction between art and society, and to bring an awareness of differing global perspectives and viewpoints through the arts.

The Social Studies program invites artists to take up residency in an empty gallery, and transform it into their creative space; creating working relationships between artist and audience as they create something entirely unique and beyond traditional exhibition structures.

InterLab is an interactive program that invites faculty, students, and other art enthusiasts to present projects that span two or more disciplines. The projects interpret art from the ASU Art Museum’s permanent collection, offering new insights and opening a dialogue between the visual arts and other academic disciplines.

The Moving Targets Initiative supports emerging artists as well as more seasoned creators working in new genres through solo exhibitions at the ASU Art Museum. The Museum has a long and successful history exploring the role of new media in the arts, and this initiative offers a more in-depth look at these new ideas and new systems for information delivery through the visual arts.

There are many ways to support the ASU Art Museum. Please visit their website to become a member, train to be a docent, volunteer at special events, or work in the Museum Store.
