The League of Legends Championship Series is giving Esports fans a chance to follow pro-LoL teams closer than ever before. For those looking to catch a weekly game or two in season 3 it will be nice to get to know the teams that you’re watching. Here’s a spotlight on one of the teams we’ll be seeing during the series.
GOOD GAME UNIVERSITY
Background:
Good Game University is new in name to the pro LoL scene but not in experience. The roster was originally sponsored by Team Dynamic, GGU was created on January 4th, 2013. Their first ever LAN tournament was the Season 3 NA qualifier which got them into the LCS.
ZionSpartan, NintendudeX, DontMashMe, Shiphtur, I am Anjo, and Pixel created the original roster. The team left the multi-gaming corporation because they said they weren't receiving enough support from their sponsors. Team Dynamic claims they gave the LoL team as much resources as possible, including thousands of dollars in gear and travel expenses.
Another possible motivation for the teams split from Team Dynamic was an issue of monetary compensation. With the salaried sponsorship provided by Riot during season 3 the team may have wanted to secure the money for themselves without any obligations to their sponsors.
While GGU is still a strong team earning themselves a place in Season 3 they've only won 2 games thus far. Ranking a low number 7 going into week six, out of the eight total teams, GGU will have to pick things up. Their current performance includes 2 wins and 10 losses.

Fun Facts:
- Former sponsor Team Dynamic lost their only team for the “League of Legends” division after the GGU roster left. In February of 2013 they began looking for a new team to sponsor going so far as soliciting on public forums like Reddit. TD also has an established presence in the competitive “Counter Strike” scene.
- Since forming their independent team Good Game University’s roster has grown. Diamond and Fat joined the roster as substitute players while BloodWater joined the team as support allowing I am Anjo to take a sub position.
- Late comer to the team Blood Water has the third best KDA in the LCS.
- Justin “Jintae” Dinh has played top and mid for GGU and currently has the record for top gold (16K) in Season 3.
- Canadian mid-laner Shiphtur has had issues getting a work permit preventing him from playing in some of the early weeks of season 3.
