The League of Legends Championship Series is giving Esports fans a chance to follow pro-LoL teams closer than ever before. For those looking to catch a weekly game or two in season 3 it will be nice to get to know the teams that you’re watching. Here’s a spotlight on one of the teams we’ll be seeing during the series.
CURSE GAMING
Background:
Curse Inc. is an online game portal and network of gaming sites that began sponsoring the team now known as Curse Gaming in 2011. The team was originally created by LiQuiD112 in 2010 and called Team XXX. The initial roster was comprised of LiQuiD112, DontMashMe, Doublelift, SYDTKO, Pobelter, Lapaka, Nyjacky, and Jsura.
The team has become one the most popular NA teams after earning 4th place at the 2011 MLG tournament, 2nd place in the IPL Face-Off in 2012, and just missing the season three salaried position taking 4th place in the Season Two North American Regional Finals.
Curse made a huge noise during the MLG summer championship after agreeing to an ARAM match during the first game in their set against Dignitas. The team took first place in the tournament after squaring off against Dignitas yet fans found the ARAM match un-professional. The surprising game play decision led to an investigation by the MLG which revoked both teams’ winnings due to collusion. Neither team admits to anything other than the agreed upon ARAM match however the MLG’s ruling still stands.
In January of 2013 the team went 4-0 in a tournament to qualify for the League of Legends Championship Series, Season 3. They have a loyal fan base and are looking stronger than ever. Some are even saying Curse Gaming is the team to beat in the NA division for season 3.
