Tell us a little bit about your writing and educational background
Mr. Cohen: I attended Herbert H. Lehman College of CUNY, graduating in 1978 with a B.A. in Economics. I minored in English and spent two semesters writing for the school newspaper. After graduating, I spent nearly 25 years working for a large corporation but began writing in my spare time around 2002. I decided to pursue a career in writing after my first two books were published in 2004. Since that time, I have succeeded in getting another seven books published, with another two scheduled to be released in 2014. I also previously spent a considerable amount of time writing for TheBaseballPage.com.
What is your book about?
Mr. Cohen: The 50 Most Dynamic Duos in Sports History takes an in-depth look at the careers of the men who comprised the 50 most dominant tandems in the history of the four major professional team sports of baseball, football, basketball and hockey. After theorizing on the qualities a true "dynamic duo" should possess, and listing the various criteria used to determine the 50 finalists, this work examines the level of dominance each tandem reached during its time together, the manner in which its members impacted their team, and the overall place in history of its members.
Why should readers read your book?
Mr. Cohen: Anyone who appreciates sports history would find my book extremely interesting. Fans of all four major team sports are likely to find it entertaining and informative, and they will enjoy reviewing the various comparisons I make throughout my work.
Did you have any obstacles while writing this book? If so, what were they?
Mr. Cohen: The obstacle I encountered involved comparing players that competed during different eras. Once I formulated my rankings in each sport, I subsequently found it difficult to compare duos that competed in different sports.
Is this the first book you have ever had published? If not, please share with us what other books you have previously had published.
Mr. Cohen: In addition to this book, I have had the following works published:
Are you working on any projects right now?
Mr. Cohen: I have two additional books that are scheduled to be released in 2014. The first is entitled The 50 Greatest Players in New York Giants Football History. That work is almost complete – I need only to update the information at season’s end for the few currently active players who made my list. I am also currently working on The 50 Greatest Players in Boston Red Sox History. I expect to have that work completed before the end of this year.
What is your advice for writers wanting to turn authors out there?
Mr. Cohen: I would advise them to pick a subject that they are passionate about because their passion will come through in their writing. I would also tell them that they need to be persistent and have thick skin because they likely will have to experience a considerable amount of rejection before they succeed.
What made you become a writer?
Mr. Cohen: I always enjoyed writing, particularly about sports. I feel that writing brings out my creative side and allows me to share my thoughts and feelings with others.
Who is your favorite author and why?
Mr. Cohen: I have two favorite authors. The first is John Gray, who authored the Men Are from Mars, Women Are From Venus series of books. I also enjoy reading David Halberstam, whose book October 1964 probably influenced my writing style more than any other.
Where can we find you?
Mr. Cohen: You can find all my books on Amazon and Barnes&Noble.com by doing an author search on my name (Robert W Cohen). My books MVP, Baseball’s Hall of Fame – Or Hall of Shame? and The 50 Greatest Players in New York Yankees History are also available in bookstores. I, personally, live in northern New Jersey. I also have an account on Facebook through which I can be reached.
