Sporting Kansas City Captain Arnaud out for sports hernia surgery

Sporting Kansas City captain Davy Arnaud will undergo sports hernia surgery next Wednesday in Los Angeles and is expected to miss up to six weeks while recovering.

"I'm a quick healer and will work hard to get back on the field," Arnaud said. "With the new stadium and our commitment to making the playoffs, I will do whatever it takes to return and contribute on the field."

Arnaud, has appeared in 15 matches in 2011, his 10th MLS season, and is the longest-tenured player on Sporting Kansas City's roster. Arnaud ranks second on Sporting Kansas City's all-time games played chart with 233 regular season appearances.

Sporting Kansas City Designated Player Omar Bravo also underwent sports hernia surgery earlier this season. Bravo missed five games (six weeks)and returned to the lineup in Seattle playing 76 minutes in the 1-0 loss.

Arnaud has mostly played in the midfield this year and has selflessly played whatever role and position Manager Peter Vermes has asked of him this year.  While Sporting KC will miss their captain, Stéphane Auvray and Roger Espinoza have recently returned from the Gold Cup.  Auvray has naturally been a central midfielder. Espinoza has mostly played left back for his club but after playing a dangerous two way mid role for Honduras, Vermes played him in that role against Vancouver. Julio Cesar has also stepped up from central defense to defensive mid which bolsters the midfield depth as well.

Midfielder Craig Rocastle returned from the Gold Cup as well but had to undergo knee surgery and will likely be out for another six weeks.
