A lot of attention is paid to women's fashion when it comes to the KY Derby weekend. Women stand out in the crowd with their lavish and sometimes outlandish hats and we tend to forget about the men. Some men are jumping in on the unofficial hat tradition of the KY Derby but if you're not ready to take that sort of a plunge there are other ways to show off your KY pride. This year, men can show off their pride for the state of KY and its time honored race by wearing your hometown pride in the form of shirts, ties, bow ties from State Traditions.
State Traditions or ST, was started by Keith Brown and John McElrath (and later joined by Maury Lyon) back in 2007 as a way to showcase their state pride. What started with polo shirts has now expanded to ties, belts, bow ties, button up shirts and other accessories. For the 2014 KY Derby men can don either Louisville red to represent the location of the KY Derby at Churchill Downs with a KY GameDay Polo in Red ($68) for a more casual look. For a more dressier look pair up the KY Lexington GameDay Tattersall Long Sleeve Shirt ($85) with either the KY Traditional Tie ($80) or the KY Traditional Bow Tie ($65) in Red.
For those whose preference leans to the true 'bleeds blue' Kentuckian, there's no shortage of KY Blue items. Whether you're more of a traditional KY blue wearer or a more classic nay blue, State Traditions has something in store for you. The KY Lexington GameDay Tattersall Long Sleeve Shirt ($85) can be paired up with a KY Lexington GameDay Tie ($80) or Bow Tie ($65) in KY Blue. Don't forget to complete the look with a pair of KY state cufflinks ($60) in the shape of KY, your KY GameDay Belt ($55) either in Lexington Blue and of course KY Blue Boxers ($25)!
State Traditions also offers other items for sale that represent not only KY but any of the other 49 states that range from koozies, fobs, vinyl car stickers, visors, ball caps and shot glasses. Each item has the state logo (shape) either printed or embroidered on it. Want to represent your country instead? State Traditions offers American items and several other countries as well like Italy, Mexico, Ireland and Brazil.
