Britain’s airport is seeing an influx of young girls who are victims of forced marriage from South Asia. The marked peak in reports of young people, girls 15 and 16 look as though they are being taken on vacation, but marriage without consent is under the table.
Karma Nirvana a non-profit organization supports victims and survivors of forced marriage and honor-based abuse. Based in England the center receives 6,500 calls a year from all over Britain, this year the numbers have almost reached that point already due to getting the word out.
The idea of the spoon came from Karma Nirvana, the spoon sets of the metal detectors in the airport, and the girls are then taken away from their parents for inspection.
