Spooky Halloween fun for families, courtesy NEMA

The New England Malayalee Association (NEMA) is continuing its tradition of celebrating Halloween by hosting its annual Halloween party on October 23rd at the Chelmsford Center for Arts.

“This is the fourth year that NEMA is hosting Halloween celebrations for our community”, says Mary Joseph, Public Relations Coordinator for NEMA. “There is a growing demand to celebrate Halloween, and attendance to this event has been rising steadily over the years.  Although this event was held in Grafton in the past, we chose Chelmsford this year, as it is a more central location. We hope that the combination of the new venue and the fun activities we have planned will persuade even more families to attend this year”, she adds. According to Ms. Joseph, the NEMA community includes a very active youth group, comprising of high school students, who has been working hard to put together some of the events for the night, and to make sure that thrills and chills are guaranteed.

The event promises a “scary fun-packed night” for all ages, complete with haunted house, face-painting, games and competitions. Grown-ups and kids can participate in the costume parade and the carved pumpkin contest. Costumes will be judged on creativity, originality and character. Pumpkins must be carved, not painted, and will be judged on workmanship, in addition to creativity and originality. There will be separate prizes for adults and kids. The $15 per family admission will include pizza. Details about the event can be found on the NEMA website.

NEMA will follow-up the Halloween celebrations with the annual Christmas party, scheduled for December 11th. The Christmas party has traditionally drawn large crowds and will feature live music and a visit from Santa Claus, in addition to other programs. Community members are invited to actively participate in cultural programs including dance, music and skits. Contact arts@nemausa.org for details.
