Here it is, the night before Halloween. You already went out last weekend to party since Halloween is on a Wednesday this year, and you're now sitting at home wondering how to spend the evening. Tomorrow night you'll be out trick-or-treating or passing out candy from home, so you can't get any gaming in then...tonight's the night for some serious scary game action. Let's take a look at one of the best horror games to come out in recent years. STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl is a game set in the Chernobyl exclusion zone of an alternate reality of 2012 Russia, 6 years after a second nuclear meltdown. The Zone, as it is called, is now a place of deep mystery and mutated creatures. People have begun exploring the ruins looking for valuable artifacts and information, some more ruthlessly than others. These people are known as Stalkers.
One thing that sets this game apart from others in the horror genre is that it was made by Ukranian game developers GSC Game World. The take a slightly different take on what makes a game scary, and the result is unique and bone chilling game experience. You play as a stalker known only as 'the marked one'. Your memory is a little fuzzy, but you know that if you explore The Zone you will find some answers. In this free roaming, open-world game you will encounter many people and creatures who are also just roaming around, doing their own thing. It's a fully immersive, reactive world that changes depending on what decisions you make.
The graphics are photo-realistic and breathtaking. Add to that a system of weather effects and day/night realism and you have set the scene for an epic gaming experience. There is a reason that STALKER has won so many awards and is rated so highly by every known game review. If you have not already checked it out, do yourself a favor tonight and go rent it. You won't be disappointed.
